The unique thing about Christianity is that salvation is through repentance and grace it isn't based on "how good you are" all the other religions are based on doing good works in order to impress God or gain good karma and what have you.
On the other point if there is no God then the universe is a meaning accident without purpose, life is a meaning accident without purpose and you are a meaningless accident without purpose. If there is a God then the situation is reversed as God would have a purpose and he created the universe with a purpose in mind. Therefore you have purpose to exist there is a meaning to life.
It's the attainment of divinity through a union with God, they call this Theosis. I suppose it's the equivalent of the Hindu or Buddhist Enlightenment.
