It doesn't take imagination on our part; all we need is a brain and the ability to read and comprehend what is written. All the imagination is on the writer's side, in this case.
How would you have interpreted the second coming from a cursory reading? If a pastor hadn't told you what Jesus actually meant, would your own "imagination" have taken a very different route nowadays?
No, like the pastors I rely on God's revelation of His word, unlike you who believes they can understand the mind of an omniscient God without His revelation.
