Of course they want to legitimise their decision. The way I see it, they are no different to you wanting to legitimise your own decision. The same goes for the members of any denomination who believe that their decision was the right one.

Yes, it could, but a lot of the theists here are Christians and I was interested in hearing their points of view.

I say none of them as well because I'm an atheist. Many Christians try to convert people to their version of Christianity, though. It gets ridiculous when they say things like "Don't listen to members of denomination X because they aren't real Christians".
