Oh, I missed this. That link is utter nonsense, scrabbling desperately to cover for immorality. The instructions for how slavery is to be conducted are right there, in black and white on the page: I don't need to compare that to American slavery to determine that it's immoral. The description is plenty for that.
The link also points out that these aren't commandments, but rather guidelines for if slavery is to happen, and I have to say Rev, this is utter bullshit, and it certainly doesn't make god out to be morally in the clear. If god actually had a problem with slavery, he could- no, should- have just outright banned it. Funny how he manages to formulate multiple commandments against worshipping anyone else but him, and turns Lot's wife into a pillar of salt for looking over her shoulder, but when it comes to slavery, oh, his hands are tied? Nonsense. At the very least, he didn't have to give a green light to slavery under certain conditions; given what's actually in the text, total silence on this issue would have been better, given all the times throughout history the bible has been used to justify slavery.
Besides, even if your link was correct- and it's not- tacit approval is still approval. Let me ask you this: the bible claims certain types of slavery is morally permissible for a christian, so would you be okay with that, as it's described in the bible, existing in modern times? Would you ever own a person like that?
Quote:Also, just because animals that can't reason do something in nature doesn't mean God gave the green light for humans to do. You can find animals stealing each other's food but does that mean it is right for us to do with each other?
Look, I brought you up on a single point: you claimed homosexuality wasn't natural, it happens in nature, therefore, you're wrong. You theists always make this argument when you're corrected on this: you say it's unnatural, you're shown that definitionally it can't be, and then you say "oh, just because animals do it..." It's twisting to avoid having to admit that your claim is wrong. Do me a favor, and stick to the argument you were actually making. Don't just move on to another one and then pretend it's the one you were making all along.
And given what you just said, I guess you are okay with slavery then? I mean, god gave the green light for that... among other things. Do you really want to get into a discussion about the things god does give green lights for?
