So, you don't support freedom of conscience, then? You think that in order to be an "proper American" -- as the OP put it -- one cannot be an atheist. And he said that the outrage that would happen if such dismissiveness were race-based would be deafening, but that an atheist practicing a core principle of American liberty is considered by some thoughtless politicians as "less American".
Because that is what he wrote, not this dissimulative bullshit you're trying to pass off as his words. Perhaps you should read for content?
Equal treatment under the law is an unconditional right in the Constitution. A politician asserting that atheists shouldn't be considered Americans is, well, unAmerican.
