Then basically, if things were different then things would be different? You're still looking at the hole and marvelling at how precisely it fits you. And if you can't follow the analogy, I suggest you look up its original use and context.

I've read Douglas Adams and his analogy is flawed. He should have directed his analogy at the physics and not the products of the physics.
