The attitude that many of them have wouldn't allow for them to get uncomfortable, because to become uncomfortable implies some possibility that their children would find the alternative view on display remotely persuasive, which they couldn't possibly do, because creationism is obviously right. You gotta be really closed off to accept creationism, after all, and you can see that among our creationists here, for which a discussion on the merits of creationism rarely ascends beyond the level of "evolution is a lie!" repeated over and over. Perhaps you've seen that youtube video of the homeschooling creationist mother "auditing" a museum?
This is what we have to deal with. She walks through the entire damn museum with her cameraman, slowly panning over every exhibit, and not once in the entire half hour video does she realize that a derisive snort or a "this is a lie!" assertion is not a valid justification for her views. The information is right there, but it never once penetrates the shield of baseless huffy condescension she has.
I lent my copy of the greatest show on earth to a creationist work colleague a few weeks ago. When he came back from holidays I asked what he thought. He replied that it was wrong. I then asked him how much of it he had read.
The reply? Three pages.
