I can't remember the circumstances precisely, but I kinda thought I was screwing up when I called a satellite TV company for a friend's installation, and the company started robo-calling my cell phone every few hours for a couple of days until they could get it cancelled.
This was back when I was on CellOne (may they all suffer hideous torment in hell) and I didn't have many minutes a month, and the few I had were expensive.
I get annoying calls on the landline quite a bit. If home improvement related I tell them the house is a ramshackle rental, if food related I ask if they take food stamps. I rarely answer 'Out of Area" calls, but will cuss out anyone claiming to be from Microsoft with that stupid scam.
My first crappy cell phone had a malfunction once in a while where it would call itself. Only way to stop it was to pop out the battery. Every call it did to itself cost me a minute. Grr. I like unlimited, but crikey, with text and data it's a hundred a month now.
