I'm a vegan, and I don't think farming animals is equal to slavery, but it sure does share a lot of aspects. Ownership, life having monetary value, restrictions on movement and activity, using superior power to control, cruelty seen as means to an end. I believe in trying to, as far as possible, not do anything to animals we wouldn't do to humans. I know this is an impossible ideal, but that is what I aspire to.
I thought that was where this argument was going to go, but sadly it's just another jesus excuse.
I clearly am not your typical "vegan" vegan, though because I don't go around saying that I'm vegan on websites, or saying I'm vegan to draw attention to the fact that I am actually not just vegan, but a vegan.
It's hard work being a vegan, but things are slowly getting better for all vegans, including me (as a vegan). Being vegetarian has become accepted and even fairly easy in England, and finally the vegan market for vegans is being recognized and there are some vegan restaurants, many more vegan products and even a vegan supermarket.
Fucking hard work. And I have Crohn's Disease, which has caused problems with my intestines meaning I can only eat things with very low fibre. So my diet really is ridiculously limited.
I was thinking of writing a topic a while back about the similarities between atheism and veganism. I have a lot of ideas. Didn't know how well it would go down.
