Oh, certainly. The idea that God is not just interested in our speck of a planet but in the individual lives is incredibly arrogant. In their defence, we spend so much time wrapped up in our human affairs that it's easy to forget our position in regard to the whole universe.
People like to feel special, that their life really "matters". Of course, it does matter to everyone around them, and it's sad that it takes validation from an invisible man before it's enough for them.
If the universe ended just a little bit out from the Earth in each direction, then they'd have a bit more of a case!
