The only thing saving us right now is that every 4 years people get off their asses and smack the republicunts down. Otherwise, we go over the cliff. The system isn't going anywhere. It's only a pipe dream in the sense that we allow it to be. If we had enough people collected together that organized in a refusal to work within this broken system until it is fixed, it could be done. These political systems only exist as long as individuals with no power choose not to organize and bring the system down. Collectively, the people that are being trampled on could squash the elite and leave them out to dry.
That's why the system is so frustrating, because theoretically, it can be fixed. It's only when you bring in the human factor and our inability to coalesce that doing so becomes a pipe dream.
By voting for the lesser of two evils, I would just be perpetuating a doomed system, but by not voting, I'm allowing the craziest of crazies to take the reigns. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, and I tear my hair out in frustration every time elections roll around.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
