I see your point, but I'd still argue that guns are more dangerous and the harm from alcohol is more easily preventable than the harm from firearm use.
Guns used for the right purpose are also fine--hunting and self-defense for example. The ill effects on society are much higher from alcohol abuse than from gun abuse. It's not a matter of whether or not they can be okay, but rather what harm they cause to society.
