Who should really care about him in particular so much to this day if it weren't simply for the fact that he's in the bible?
Its like Bill Hicks said: "[...]People say "Bill, quit talking about Kennedy man. It was a long time ago, just let it go, alright? It's a long time ago, just forget it." I'm like, alright, then don't bring up Jesus to me. As long as we're talking shelf life here..."
Look at your avatar.
I don't worship Darwin, nor am I obsessed with him.
I didn't say that you worshipped him, I responded to your remarks about Jesus and Kennedy as being outdated.
But the main point is that you talk of Jesus as if he's the be all and end all. And perhaps you don't worship him, I don't know, but a lot of theists do. At least we know Darwin existed and he isn't half as outdated as Jesus if you can call him outdated at all. Bill Hicks' point was that If Kennedy is outdated how outdated must Jesus be!!!
I don't think you can really call any great thinker or person outdated, the greatest Ancient Greek philosophers were before Jesus and a lot of what they say isn't outdated its still true today. But they, and Jesus got a lot of things wrong.
There have been many advances since Jesus' time, so why live your life by someone who thought things that we know today are wrong, to the point of thinking he is the perfect good and is Lord?! There have been greater minds since. And I personally think a lot of the Greek philosophers before him were better thinkers and moral philosophers.
Basically: why live your life by someone who lived over 2000 years ago and while (if he existed) was probably a great man for the time - thought slavery was a good thing?
