In the new normal, it's not. In the new normal, for example, it's okay to use your political position to do bodily violence to brown and/or poor people. Similarly, it's okay to use violence to oppose a political position or candidate.
Though I'm guessing that, in the case of Paul, it was a run of the mill kicking your neighbors ass kind of day. This state is famous for feuding neighbors, and this wasn't the first time they'd gone at it.
