Fables and allegory, that's the ticket. The poor fundy protestants will probably never find their way out except by disbelief. Fortunately this works too.
In his latest revelations, Pope Francis said:
Quote:“Through humility, soul searching, and prayerful contemplation we have gained a new understanding of certain dogmas. The church no longer believes in a literal hell where people suffer. This doctrine is incompatible with the infinite love of God. God is not a judge but a friend and a lover of humanity. God seeks not to condemn but only to embrace. Like the fable of Adam and Eve, we see hell as a literary device. Hell is merely a metaphor for the isolated soul, which like all souls ultimately will be united in love with God.”

I actually completed an online conflict resolution (CR) program at Abilene Christian University, and the idea of embracing one another regardless of one's cultural/traditional/philosophical (etc.) upbringing, embodied many of the peacemaking concepts, principles, and techniques taught by the CR faculty members. The CR faculty were nice, intelligent, analytical, and reflective people. They wanted students to reinforce their work with academic resources; they did not want students blindly quoting biblical verses to support their ideas. I absolutely cherish the time I spent at the residency session, as I learned how to mediate conflicts and realized that there is plenty of common ground between religious and non-religious concepts and principles.
