What? "Mainstream" Mormons that all chant how gays should all kill themselves you call Salt of the Earth (preservers of morality), well shame on you. Take at least look at the documentary 8: The Mormon Proposition (2010) you'll see what I'm talking about.
Or look at the Boy Scouts. Isn't it weird that Boy Scouts are required to believe in God (any god, really) and can't be gay, when Girl Scouts seem to get along just fine without the bigotry towards either atheists or homosexuals? Why is that?
Maybe it's because the Mormons are the largest chartering organization of the Boy Scouts of America. Boy Scouts are predominantly (68.4%) sponsored by churches, with the LDS church taking the lion's share, sponsoring fully a third of all scouting units.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
