That has implications for how the story can unfold and how people interpret the interplay between the characters but to ask if Starbuck is actually male or female doesn't make much sense.
Give me a reason to believe that the entity in question actually exists in reality and not just a collection of ancient myths and we can look at what gender attribute is most appropriate.
