This is why YHWH had to kill his own son (who was also himself) in order to allow himself to forgive us for sins. You see, he made a rule that forgiveness is impossible unless something dies first. And he can't just arbitrarily change his own rules. I mean, what kind of god would he be then, huh?

So.............do we categorize this as the "Yahweh Is An Asshole" Defense, D-P?

Hang on there! I mean, just because he is credited with the single largest mass murder in 'recorded' history doesn't make him an asshole. Nor does allowing the massacre of all male infants to commemorate the birth of his son. Sure, he could have simply made Herrod change his mind or forget about wanting to do that, but then it wouldn't have been mentioned in the histories of the Romans or the Hebrews or anybody else, would it?

Statler, the people in the US claim to be religious, but they're lying.

They're religious.... so long as it doesn't interfere with their chosen way of life.

They believe in the Bible - or at least the parts that don't require them to do anything in particular. Or,
the parts that don't contradict what they want to believe about CHRISTIANITY. Most have not even
read it. That baffles me, since if you are going to base your life on a book, and believe your afterlife
throughout eternity depends on adhering to that book, why don't they bother to read the darned thing?

Their idea of "Christianity" is more "Churchianity". They read them the nice, feel-good parts of the
Bible about how God "loves" them - and ignore all of the places where He just arbitrarily kills
everybody. Or the more absurd laws in the Old Testament that they say don't apply. Or the justifications
for slavery that exist in the New Testament as well as the old. For many, church is a place to meet
people that share the same prejudices. It's a place to have someone tell you what to believe. It's a place
to give your money so that you can feel that you've "bought" your place in heaven.

I agree that they don't believe anything in the bible. If they did they'd be acting like Christ rather than like Christians.
