What baffles me are Buddhists, who also claim that Buddhism is not a religion, but a philosophy, even though the major schools of Buddhism defy this by having large priesthoods, schools of thought and dogma, prayers and etc.
That's mostly to do with the fact that it's becoming increasingly hard to sell people on "religion". It's difficult to consider all other religions to be complete horseshit and then maintain the walls of one's own. So it gets re-branded as a "relationship" or whatever the popular platitude is, to avoid being associated with the "horseshit". The human mind is amazing in it's ability to defend itself, even from itself.

Megachurches aren't cheap, vendors like to have smooth sales pitches.

When every bit of the money you take in is put back into a group of people trying to better themselves, or a charity, you can be. Actually; charity donations already get you a certain sum of tax exemption. Go at it!

Disagree whole heartedly flakey....Charities keep some 50% of "donations" (or more) to maintain the charity. No one is "getting better"

Im glad not everyone believes that; otherwise charities would have no funding.
The point is that donating to charity gets you tax exemption to a certain degree.

I disagree with the idea of charities, if something needs doing then it needs to be funded from taxation, not by emotional blackmail.
There are also many different charities doing the same thing.
A centrally funded organisation would be much more effective.
