Even with so much proof that contradicts the "word of god", the bible, the people still won't give up religion.
Too much brain wash, hope only lies in future generations.

I think when people say atheism is a religion, they are mainly stating that atheists as a whole generally share the same beliefs and disbeliefs. It would be more correct to say that atheism is LIKE a religion in the sense that "birds of a feather flock together". If viewed as an organized group of atheists that are adamently opposed to having "God" in the classroom or having the Christian manger scene in the town square at Xmas, then it could be akin to a religious movement or more correctly an anti-religious movement. For the most part I do believe it is a stupid euphemism to say atheism is a religion, yet that statement can really be turned around against them. If it is, then we can accomplish all the same charitable work and comfort and welfare that religion claims to supply. Then there really is no need for Christian churches if athesim is an equal alternative. Atheism is a religion...thanks! I never thought of it that way Deists, but if you say so then atheism is even more fulfilling than I first imagined. Now I know for sure that we REALLY don't need God or to see Jesus hanging on the cross anymore since atheism is the new religion. So atheism doesn't just satisfy our scientific curiousity, but also our divine inclinations as well. This is one more reason why Christianity should be disposed with. I guess it truly is completely unnecessary and utterly obsolete since Atheism can do "all the good things" that religion does anyway.

They just don't want to accept it!
"omg how can people not believe in god!" they say, and then, before their mind can exploded with the incomprehensible reality that people don't believe in God, they go on an evangelism rampage.
My take on it is it's because they find the thought that they just might have to take responsibility for their own lives such a terrifying one that they simply cannot function in society without the protective bubblewrap of ridiculously childish mythology around their brains. It's sort of the reverse of the accusation usually levelled at us, that we know their pet god exists but choose to deny it because we enjoy sinning too much to defer responsibility to a higher authority, albeit an imaginary one.
The difference between these two opposing views is my version is by far the most likely.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Its the same thing as what is being talked about in the thread that has diverged into mysticism. Simply put, people are afraid of the unknown. And because of that, they fill it in with as much made up nonsense as possible to feel more secure.
What has always baffled me is how people can be afraid of the unknown instead of fascinated by it. How is it not fantastically exciting that there are unknown things to explore left in the universe?
