The Israel question.

I would like to understand a bit more about Israel from the perspective of Americans. It seems to be a question everytime an election is coming around 'what's your stance on Israel?' Albeit it seems more of a Republican question.
Why does America care so much about Israel? Is it strategic positioning? Sympathy/empathy? Friend in the Middle East?
Why do people like Newt Gingrich hate Palestine? Can they not see that Israel insane right wing Zionists are themselves a major problem?
I used to be a supporter of Israel but have come to dislike its politics and aparteid style treatment of Palestinians, who although they don't do themselves any favours by voting in terrorists like Hamas, do not deserve to be treated like prisoners in their own land.
Why the love for a country that is oppresive to millions of Palestinians?
I'd like to know your views.

It probably wasn't the wisest idea to establish Israel as a nation....that being said, whats done is done. I'm pretty confused at the seemingly limitless support Israel enjoys from the US as well. It's probably a combination of strategic positioning/friends/affinity through faith/responsibility to a nation we essentially created.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I think it's all biblical, which is why it's only the Republicans that ask that question. Something about protecting the people that their holy book calls God's chosen ones or some such nonsense.

It is not antisemitic to point to the potency of the Israel lobby, and the success of Jewish Americans in those fields best suited to manipulating American heart strings , and who admits to no conflict of interest by the simple expedient of insisting American could not ever have legitimate interest opposite to those of aggradizing Israel.

I do think America has a unique take on what anti-semitism is, anything against Israel or offending any jew in any way.

Jews.
The usually nutty Pat Buchanan sagely noted "Capitol Hill is Israeli occupied territory."

I also think that in the long run, say several hundred years, Israel has little chance of survival as an obstinant jewish nation. This is because fractions in sustained conflict will tend to equilibrate in skill and expertise. It is harder to maintain an edge than to catch up. Once surrounding states match Israel in skill and expertise, Israel will simply sink out of sight in an Arab deluge. The deluge may come in the form of war, or in the form of economic or demographic tide.
It is better to plan on how to minimize casualty, damage, and intractable hereditary hatred that would accompany this ultimate outcome, then to strive to stave it off for a few more decade or a century, at the expense of making it more cataclysmic.

US needed a surrogate in the middle east, that is Israel. It has everything to do with money and power and nothing to do with religion. It's just an easy way to get the masses on-board. It was a complete land grab in I believe 1948, when they annexed Palestine to create the nation of Israel. They use the holocaust to create remorse and feelings for the jews, but the numbers of the holocaust are almost certainly erroneous, and I think the tally was like 50 million dead all over Europe, to single out one religious group in the mass devastation is not being honest. Regardless of whatever happened how the hell did Palestine have anything to do with the problem, and why have they had bloodshed for 50 years. Mostly neo-conservatives love Israel, figure out why, follow the facts, and money.

According to the bible, the Jews are supposed to be in control of Israel for Jesus to start the rapture.
In my mind this is nothing more than self-fullfilling prophecy

Throughout history every time some xtian idiot or other has found someone to dislike he calls him the "anti-christ" in spite of the fact that the conditions called for do not remotely exist.
The "re-building" of a temple that never existed in the first place is one of the more basic points of silly shit in Revelations/Rapturism.
