Good for you ^_^ I'm glad that more gay people are feeling comfo-wait.

Sigh... atheism is not a big deal. Whatever.

This seems to be a common missconception about atheism. There is no litmus test for "true atheism". There are no prerequisites to not believe in god. You could be an atheist because your cat told you that there was no god and you would be just as atheist as anyone else.

Thanks for the link, the song kind of sucks but at least it explains the South park episode about Scientology. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tXBCPTo7...re=related

I suppose you're right, to not believe you simply must not believe. In my post I was talking more about what is needed to explain phenomena. Religion needs to find some sort of explanation for phenomena so it can keep it's people from going to sources for these explanations that will contradict the religious texts/doctrine. You would not want to lose converts to truth and provable fact. It's one thing to believe or not believe it's another thing to remain this way in the face of new information.

Congrats Ziploc. Your life is definitely taking a turn for the better. It did for me. It is such a sense of relief in so many ways. I'm sure certain members of your former congregation are praying and trying to save your soul from eternal damnation. Some will ostracized you. But you are better off without them. Good luck.

^This.

I don't have a problem that you're gay. I don't know why you would think a site full of atheists would... oh, er, you meant as an atheist, and to other peopl... OK, yeah, I got it.

It seems... unnecessary. I'm sorry that I don't know the background of the situation, but that's how it seems.
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

In the past the saying "to come out of the closet" was not limited t homosexuality. You could use it for any secret that has now been made public. I was unaware of the change. People (old people at least) still use the term as it has always been used.

I don't understand why you felt the need to write that letter. You left the church, why bother telling them why and suffering their attempts to evangelize you back into the fold and their possible ire? They will never understand, so why tell them? What in the world did you owe them? Your wasted time from all the years you spent believing something that wasn't true?

I don't understand how a joke is taken seriously enough for two people to respond seriously.

Especially when I was the one who said it.

Atheism is not a big deal though Smile
