I wouldn't want to be the lawyer arguing for malice aforethought in the case of the woman getting the abortion or the doctor performing it either. That's a damned tough sell.

everyone else on the board seems to be content on discussing spooky shit. Its all human, its all life.

Its also the womans womb, and she can do with it as she pleases.

To me it is a no brainer.

So you're saying yes, it's human life, but as long as that life is within your physical confines you can do with it whatever you please? If I put a midget in my stomach would I automatically have supreme power over he/she? You'll say I had the choice to put it there, but so does the woman.

Is the midget connected to an umbilical cord?

It is the womans umbilical cord...she can cut it for any reason...ANY REASON.
Unless...of course, you think its a-okay for me to hook a slide into the back of your fridgerator into mine to feed my family.

If you cut the slide, well, you kill my family because we depend on you to feed us...that would make you a murderer.

There is no inconsistency and your argument is tu quoque. (appeal to hypocrisy)

However,as far as I'm aware, most pro life people reject the claim that a first trimester foetus is a person. (as do I) A condemned felon is usually an adult being punished for his actions, which are deemed to have been the result of a free and informed choice ..

Me? I'm pro choice, seeing abortion only as a medical procedure, between the woman and her doctor . Nor do I see anything"special'' about humans. We are just another species. Our sentience makes us arrogant and self important.

I have no problem with the state killing people who say rape and/or murder a child or who commit murder for personal gain. AS LONG AS a safe conviction is guaranteed. I do not agree with killing people over politics. EG treason.

No, it doesn't. Vast portions of humanity receive little to no de facto protection, yet much of the rest has not been thus made intolerably vulnerable.

Nice to know there are more pro-life atheists out there. I have been one for quite a while now. It was Christopher Hitchens + an understanding of rights / liberties that finally convinced me.

*raises hand*

Another pro-life atheist here! I'd like to know what it was about Christopher Hitchens that made you pro-life because I have yet to read his work.

No flopping from me, just don't ask me to be upset about the slaying of a parasitic growth inside a woman by her choosing. And I also believe that she may lop off her own arm if she wishes, with the full assistance from a doctor should she pay for it (albeit Hypocratic Oath that).

Amen!

Quote:You don't understand Libertarianism; you continually refer to it as "republicolibterianazism". There is no point even discussing things with you if you are going to constantly break Godwin's law.

Clumsy attempt at a dodge, Divi Tiberio. I haven't used that term in this thread although I'm glad your are getting the fucking point.

You want to use the government to punish your enemies just like the xtian asswipes you profess to oppose want their sky-daddy to punish their enemies for all eternity. For that matter, and I may as well finish the analogy, your "invisible hand of the market" is as phony a religious concept as their "god."

I regard libertarians as hypocritical bastards. If that makes you feel better feel free to mentally substitute it whenever I do use republibertarianeo-conazis. I can't imagine it why you would.

Meanwhile, for a guy who wants the government (allegedly) out of people's private lives you seem very ready to get them between a woman's legs.

You da man, rev. I seem to remember our favorite libertarian saying that right to food was not part of the deal. I agree with you completely, if she wants to cut the cord -from her side only- to stop the flow of nutrients out of her body, I think Tiberius will have to grant you this point or else rethink his position.

It sure seems that people with a uterus definitely have fewer rights than those without.

Nothing wrong with wanting to get between a woman's legs but especially a libertarian should expect no help from the government toward this end.

You mean sapience, because almost every animal species is sentient

RE: I am a pro-life atheist
errata,that should read 'pro CHOICE'

Pro life people tend to argue personhood exists from the moment of conception. Christians believe the soul is present from that moment. That by the way is by no means a universal view.

OK; muscle and brain development BEGIN in the eleventh week. In my country,an abortion is not usually performed after the of 12th week. Later abortions tend to be done only when the mother's life is in danger.(except,I believe in China)
