Noah's Ark

RE: Noah's Ark
The lake was considered sacred and Caligula was a known devotee of the Isis cult. Plus, the lake is less than 20 miles from Rome so good for a weekend of debauchery.

It's good to be the king.

What did the flood accomplish? Absolutely bloody nothing.

RE: Noah's Ark
A certain peace? Who cares about the peace, we're all wondering how god created "a certain amount of space" (among a great many other things). I can create "a certain peace" among animals with one pull of the trigger, and I'm not a god, that's small potatoes. Beyond all of that, there's a saying about "assuming". In this case I don't think it makes an ass out of me....so that only leaves one other party.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Indeed. However, what the bible does NOT tell you is that they all died soon after the flood.

What actually happened was Noah sent the lot of them up to the top of Mt Ararat with wheelbarrows to collect some of the thousands of tonnes of guano, elephant shit, unicorn shit, etc etc. Very dark in the bilges,so one of the men lit a lamp and discovered methane. This also explains why the Ark has never been found

.Noah went on liviing alone, for hundreds of years, going quite mad. If it hadn't been for his harem of female orangutans and goats he would have died of boredom.

Makes perfect sense to me.I challenge, any theist to prove my account is wrong.Angel Cloud

Quote:Very true, and they were called the "Nemi ships" because they were built to sail (only) on Lake Nemi, not the open ocean.

Yes, I'm aware of that Min. My comments were to show there is nothing ridiculous about the concept of Noah's ark in terms of overall size. However the dimensions are wrong;too narrow..

The Chinese built wooden ocean- going ships of about the same size, but very wide.

Call me doubting Thomas, ,but I see a bit of pragmatic difference between a family of bronze age farmers and an emperor or Chinese admiral with the resources of an entire state.

My favorite part is that right after the flood yahweh repents of having drowned all humans except Noah and fam and swears never to do it again!

"Oh shit... Maybe I shouldn't have done that. I guess I'm going to have to go back to anger management..." Haha.

I love the "back in those days" arguments too about the world being more magical then. I think this is the same explanation for why people lived longer in the beginning of the Old Testament. Because they and the world were more "free from sin". But didn't god just drown the entire world because he judged the people in it to be "evil"?! Not one, not a few, not a city but the entire world! So much so that he believed it to be the only solution. Hell, you at least have to give the guy credit for admitting when he is wrong.

Sorry guys it's just that people are looking at the world as complete morons anymore.

Thank god it is all just so patently untrue.

I think you'd have an easier time defending Santa Claus.

Grade A comedy.

And people really believe people lived longer in those days. They didn't even have calendars until the Romans. I think they must have counted the full moons etc or seasons, there's no way they lived to be 180 or so at any time in our history. So 180 would probably equate to 50 years old

And isn't that one of the most telling things about faith, i.e. believing against all evidence. Even if it is based on an overt error, it will be believed, rationalized, and defended to the hilt. It's like when Bill Maher asks in Religulous "Suppose you had been taught Jack and the Beanstalk instead of Jonah and the Whale. You would be defending the one instead of the other." They will go to the grave believing Adam lived 900 years because that's how it was taught.

And the truth might be that they actually lived much FEWER years than us. Not that I actually believe that Noah or Adam existed but for the sake of argument others who may have actually existed in the Bible undoubtedly lived fewer years than modern humans.
