If the bible is your one and only source of ethics, wisdom and inspiration, then you must be a very shallow, short-sighted and boring individual.
Also, How do you reconcile Christianity's violent history, anti-intellectualism and rampant corruption with childish stories in the bible?
Everything "moral" that Jesus supposedly said is taught in every other religion yet just much more skillfully. Jesus is alot of hype.

Do you really want to argue that.

True that he never wrote anything down himself. It is also highly likely that Jesus never existed, at least not how and when the Unholy Bible says so. Plus, there is nothing wholly original about Jesus. He is a fictional hodge podge of lessr known Egyptian, Sumerian and mediterranean pagan gods. Watch Zeitgeist (30 min part on religion), educational and very entertaining.

Its not my "only source". Its a very valuable source specifically to me and how i view the world. I find that one of my best sources is my actual conscious but sometimes it is my worst. I enjoy the use of the word wonder and idea of emotional, powerful works of beauty and expression. I don't think Jesus was against that was he?
Violent history was for the development of Israel for the preparation of Jesus.
Anti-Intellectualism? The story is past down through a piece of literature. I don't think Jesus needs to tell you what you already can figure out for yourselves. Art and science are wonderful, Jesus doesn't need to say it to be true.
I haven't ever seen from any other that you should give away all your possessions or turn the other cheek. Also the fact that he doesn't get married and advises against it, is quite different. And the fact about family, its not just your immediate family you should love and care for and cherish, EVERYONE is family, make it the world and you will truly love.

It tells you want you to here, sound familiar. Most the stuff in zeitgeist is untrue.

I'm taliking about the violent history that has happened since Jesus came on the scene and because he did. Like the Dark age abuses, wars, Inquisition, etc, etc, etc. Even to this day all in the name of God and Jesus. Is not the proof in the pudding? If Chritianity was a 2000 year old man being judged on his actions, he would be considered a serial killing rapist madman. You cant just blame 'human nature' either because it was consistent, institutionalized violence and oppression perpetrated systematically for a VERY long time.

Actually nearly every founder of major world religions has promoted NON-violence, monasticim and freedom from materialsim. They all say similiar things such as your examples in different ways in their native language. Yet a REAL problem with Jesus is that he is more an extremist than any practical teacher or spiritual guide. The Buddha taught to not cling to possessions but he was realistic in that not ALL possessions need to be given away, just what is unnecessary or burdensome. And why Jesus was oppossed to marriage is beyond me although many spiritual giants did hold monastic vows. If you studied other religions more in depth you will actually find greater wisdom and much more common sense. Don't put THE BIBLE on a pedestal. It is rife with contradictions and absurdities no matter how you interpret it. Personally I left being a Catholic years ago and find Eastern philosophy far superior in nearly every way.

We know of what Christians did and we know of what Jesus said. Is there justification in what Jesus said to the actions of what Christians did?
They didn't understand what Jesus really wanted, its hard, the body is weak but the spirit is willing. So the ones that wanted this world did abuse it. Does that mean everyone did? Does that mean Jesus wanted them to?
The extremity is a difference. Why do you think he said give all your possessions to the poor? Material is of no importance and compassion and love for the poor and destitute should be recognized. Marriage is of no importance. Mohammad had wives, Moses had a wife, Zeus had a wife, Thor had a wife, Joseph Smith had wives, and even Buddha had a wife, i wonder why? These are all human affairs concerned with this world. He is not of this world and hes showing what is truly important. Common sense is already, common, I'm not looking for that.
PS love your sig.

Let's just cut to the chase.
The 12 Apostles of Jesus. 12 men that knew the absolute truth about the cosmos in person per se. Only 4 Gospels deemed worthy enough came out of that. Now how did illiterate fishermen and the like even produce these writings? Well.. They didn't. Church tradition labelled the four canonical Gospels after some of the Apostles but no one actually knows who wrote them.
Knowing that it wasn't witnesses means all we are reading is hearsay. That isn't useful at all. It's like being charged for a murder you didn't commit but you're found guilty because the evidence was that someone heard you did it. No witnesses, just word of mouth. This is what the NT is basing the existence of Jesus on.
