Grandma isn't in heaven

RE: Grandma isn't in heaven
The bible, sir. The bible.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Even though I'm a heretic, I share some of the same sympathies, so that what I would do. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do so if it wasn't sincere. Not that I'm implying you would; the tone of your posts suggest that you're a tactful person.

I would probably want to comfort them from my own frame of reference.

What basis do you have to say it might not be the end of us?

Death is the end of the process that is life. If you disagree then I'm afraid you don't understand what "The end" means. Life isn't a video game where you can hit reset and continue.

Quote:I hate hitler. He's dead.
You hate the atrocities he's committed from a historical perspective, yes, those of us who aren't fucking neo-Nazis and are humanists who care about their fellow man usually do.

You can't hate the person (Hitler) because he's dead. He no longer exists as a person or entity that you can eligibly hate, hence the analogy to Robin Hood, who as far as we know has never existed as a real-life person and thus impossible to legitimately detest. Those who don't exist and those who are dead are in the same category. That's why you can't hate Stalin or why atheists are unable to hate God.

What, like up the arse?

Bingo.

Hahaha... My grandma is mean!!! If there a heaven, i doubt anyone in my family would go to it, i'd feel out of place. However, there is no heaven, and the kid is sadly misinformed.

I NEVER get involved with those conversations at a funeral. Strict rule.

One of my friends died of a heart attack at 26 years old ... I didn't say a word about his afterlife or lack thereof. It's actually very easy to avoid because at a funeral, everyone wants to be supportive (& special), and it makes it easy to be supportive just by standing around and keeping your mouth shut.

Did I mention its a strict rule? Fellow non-believers - show some respect, keep your mouth shut and let them believe their fairy tales for a day.

I adhere to this rule. Its not the time or place to start having a go. Time to bit ones lips and let it slide for a while.

I ask the same in return when I pop my clogs. I already told my family I will have no mention of god. Smile
