This is not lethal. If a person is going to kill themselves, they do not need to start a thread on a forum to find out how. I understand your histrionics on the topic. No one wants to be party to another's suicide, but that is the thing about suicide. There is a choice. Short of convincing someone they are worthless, there is really never any blame on another party. Even then, it is only partial blame. I think suicide is very serious, and would talk to anyone here if they thought they needed help. However, I'm not going to avoid the S word and worry about whether this thread is going to drive someone off the deep end. Suicide is not like that. People do not need a method. They need a reason. If this thread were about why people should kill themselves, I would be more concerned.

Then be concerned. People ask questions like this. I met a person on EP who intended to find a painless way to kill himself with this question. Just because you haven't seen something, don't think it doesn't happen. (insert subtle allusion to my "male-rape" reply here)

I see what you lot are getting at. First of its highly unlikely that somebody would go ask a forum. I'm sure a quick Google search would suffice. Also what would the point in not replying be? Its not like its hard to find such information. If the person is genuinely going to kill themselves then they will find the information any way they can. I'm pretty sure if you were about to kill yourself you would not add a picture of angry smile face mob hanging somebody..

By the way, when I considered killing myself I very nearly came to a forum to ask how. It would have been as much a cry for help as anything: I half-hoped someone would notice and do something about it. A Google search won't tip off people who you're secretly asking for help, and so it fulfills only half the purpose.

In addition, people considering suicide often don't consider themselves important, and therefore they attempt to make light of their question. I, for example, felt that my thoughts of suicide meant that I was mentally "whining" and therefore I used emoticons very often for whatever reason.

That was a while ago, but you see why I don't take these things lightly.

The best thing to do about suicide is to educate people about it. All aspects of it. An unwillingness to discuss suicide does the people considering it no favours.

Well, i moderate a suicide forum and we discourage talk of methods there. So, yeah, this is where my reaction is coming from.

Honestly it becomes a harder decision as I start liking what I see in the mirror more and more.

I, personally, would lock the door up tight and put a warning sign on it, smoke some white russian, have a couple of cans of cider, put on some Jimi Hendrix, take two asprine, put one of those oxygen masks on tightly sealed and connected to a tank filled with carbon monoxide. Hold a picture close to me of someone I loved as I slip into unconsciousnous.
The asprine would hopefully lessen any unpleasant headache I might get from the poisoning. Eventually I would pass out from oxygen deprivation, I would then suffer extensive brain damage and then death. It'd be painless.
I have thought of doing it for at least eight years now but honestly? What would be the point? Me dying wouldn't change anything, if I'm alive I can still make myself useful. Just not quite sure what I should put my life toward yet. Thats how I think of it anyway but hey, its your choice.
