Suicide

RE: Suicide
It's not, I'm just trying to explain to you why others believe it is theirs.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Why is that my responsibility?

Push someone over the edge, however, when they do display a clear and present danger to themselves and I'll come down holy hell on your ass. It's not your responsibility to save them, but it certainly is your responsibility to not get us named in a Wrongful Death suit because you had to be an ass and yell "Jump!".

This thread is allowed to exist because it has been determined there is not clear and present warning signs from anyone. Nor is there anyone encouraging an existent person to do so.

However, I must post this, because you are straying into territory where you may feel it's your right to incite or amplify existing issues because it is "not your responsibility". That line of thought can invite really shitty things.

RE: Suicide
Suicide, like all hot buttons, is going to create some arguments. It's an issue in all societies and I certainly don't see why we shouldn't have a thread about it.

I am completely in agreement with Syn though. Encouraging someone to off themselves simply to get a few laughs is irresponsible. It's not like we know anything about each others' lives and for all you know, someone here really might need a shoulder to lean on ... even if it is a "cyber-shoulder." Behind every one of these screens, sits a real person.

Lets leave the callous and cold remarks for the Christians to make and lets the rest of us try and give a shit. Meanwhile, we can argue about suicide without encouraging someone to actually commit it. For the record, I feel that if you're in great unending physical pain due to an illness or accident ... you should have every right to end your own life.

IMO

Why don't you good folks just lock the thread? I mean... What is there to add? It's kind of an unpleasant topic anyway. Just sayin'.

Except that it would block the original poster from saying something. Something perhaps important. That's something for the mods to consider I guess.
