Tell that to the persecuted, after you finish washing their blood from your hands. You're dealing with lives here, and you always have lacked a certain gravity, a certain awareness that you're dealing with real shit and not something that can be risked. Every moment those ads stay up, another person is shot, and you think you can accept that because of some tenebrous sense of higher moral fiber? Bullshit. This is fucking real, try to really comprehend that for a moment.

Do you think we should be able to put up signs saying "Go away ni****s"?

Recant, or we're done here.

The civil rights movements never used censorship, to the best of my knowledge. Look how far they've come. It is foolish, arrogant, bigoted, blind, and oh-so like a fundy to somehow claim superiority to near everyone and insist without proof that non-atheists are idiots.

Recant why? Because you've issued me an ultimatum without providing a shred of proof or rational thought? Stfu.

Where's your comeback? The one where you deny that you're allowing deaths? You don't have one, because you know that homosexuals will be killed for this, but you don't grasp the weight of it. You'd rather cling to a higher morality so that you can feel clean, and you need to stop. Think. Remove your anger for a second. You're dealing with lives, and you need to see that and stop being so selfish.

You're arguing the positive- that my words will kill people and that we need censorship. Provide proof that censorship has been effectively used and can be a driving force for equality, and I'll admit that I'm wrong.

Provide proof, or I need refute nothing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech

Nevermind. . . I stand corrected. I assumed that any power that was forced to resort to censorship would invariably become as corrupt as the people it opposed, but I was unware that anti-hate speech laws have been used effectively and respectfully in many European countries for years.

Calling homosexuality a treatable defect sounds like hate speech to me, so in light of the evidence I've seen, I recant my opinion. I was wrong. I realize now that I was perhaps. . .naive, in insisting that people would pick the correct choice if two were strongly presented. Sometimes, censorship is required for the overall good of humanity, and for the individual safety of people. Consider this my surrender in this debate.

I do maintain, though, that any group employing censorship should be required to provide a great deal of empirical proof that they are correct before censoring their detractors. But since homosexuals certainly have proof that their orientation can't be and doesn't need to be treated, I now believe that censorship in this case would be for the best.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_...ted_States
"Certain forms of speech, such as obscenity and defamation, are restricted in major media outlets by the government..."

http://system.uslegal.com/u-s-constitution/amendment-i/
"...the question in every case is whether the words used are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger ..."

As you can see, censorship is acceptable as long as it extends only to restricting the defamation of another, a decision which the courts have upheld several times over, and a law which many of the more liberal countries practice. In this case, by classifying homosexuality as a disorder requiring treatment, the Church has crossed a line and must legally be stopped.

Also, here's Plato just 'cuz.
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionar...censorship
"For example, the ancient Greek philosopher Plato advocated various degrees of censorship in The Republic..."

Note that I advocate ONLY censorship which stops direct and pointed insults or violence, and not censorship based upon indirect or uncertain threats. In addition, scientifically proven detractions, such as calling schizophrenia a disorder/disease/what have you, should be allowable, of course. I intended only to show that incorrect bias show not be allowed to directly cause individuals to come to harm, not to advocate most censorship.

Ah, pointless post. I already recanted my opinion and agreed with you based on a source I found, but there's no harm in having these here as well.

I cannot believe this advertising. As a gay man I am appalled at this but not surprised. I spent most of my adolescence coming to terms with being gay and it was not an easy road. Now I am in my forties and I finally have more confidence in who I am, but this sort of promotion scares me so much. I have come to the conclusion that the reason why religions hate homosexuals so much is due to the fact that they cannot procreate and therefore are unable to contribute to the populating of a particular religious order. We are of no use whatsoever to those religions who seeks to increase numbers. The fact that we are contributors to society as much as anyone falls on stoney ground and at the end of the day we are considered the lowest of the low. I consider myself a decent human being and would never wish harm to my fellow man/woman, but I really do fear for the future as religion seems to be becoming more and more dominant again.

I don't think the religious often think that far into it. Well, maybe the clergy do, but most people have been conditioned from birth to hate gay people for no reason. I agree, the bigotry is disgusting.

As for religion becoming more powerful. . .I'm not sure about world wide, but America is now more atheist than ever before in its history (still only at a stunning 10%, lol), but we at least haven't been moving backwards on the subject of religion.
