Does your family know that you are an atheist?

RE: Does your family know that you are an atheist?
My mum is a devout Christian but vehemently hates the Catholic Church.

We usually get along just fine. Big Grin

The rest of my family don't care either way.

Not that I haven't made some comments to my closest relatives, but I really think no one believes me yet. I still get comments like " don't give me any bullshit about you being an atheist" and that sort of thing. I was once quite the irrational thumper type, back in the day, so I can't say I blame them for not believing I think it is bs now. I am still learning how to be rational, and it is way late in the game at my age.

I get that, too...the disbelief of my disbelief thing. My mom actually says things like, "You certainly believed back when...(insert story of my youth)", as if one can't stop believing at some point. My Grandma says that I believe, but I'm denying it to myself. I will let myself believe again some day.

I leave them to it. It makes them happier to hold on to that, I guess.

I'm not an atheist, but most of my family know that I consider their religion a filthy disease.

I don't throw it in their face though unless they get confrontational with their godboy.

I suppose it might allow them to avoid the uncomfortable thoughts of you going to hell.

Some of my siblings know and they are all hardcore Christians, and my nephew. I'm still not sure if telling my parents would be a good idea at this point since they would be devastated. It is for their own good that I will not do it.

my mom tripped me up about 10 yrs ago, when i asked her if she feels like her church is a cult. i had some iron balls that day, but i was actually worried for her and her hubby. they laughed and said no, but i begged to differ. anyway, she hit me with a quick question "do you believe that jesus died for your sins?" and i pondered it and as i was about to tell her the truth, i saw her eyes and i just couldn't (at that second), so i say "yeah"! fml!

i think they all know i don't believe. i don't mind what people think of me at all, i just don't want the women in my family to hurt for me. anything that happens to me will not be because i haven't found jesus. haha.

No, but only because it has never come up in conversation. If asked, I would have no problem telling them.
