Only 26% of Irish Catholics believe in transubstantiation
New poll says Only 26% of Irish Catholics believe in transubstantiation.

“If they don’t believe in transubstantiation then they are not Roman Catholics,” Prof Dawkins said. “If they are honest they should say they are no longer Roman Catholics.”

The church is on the way out. The seminaries are empty. The churches are empty. The ones who do show up are aging quickly.

There's hope for Ireland yet.

Now we can finally start finding actual uses for church buildings, and hopefully later mosques and synagogues.

I propose shelters and skill centres for the homeless. Big Grin

Gee, people are no longer believing that a dead jew's body has manifested itself as bread and wine? Mayber there is hope for the human race.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

Might I suggest that at least one be converted into the "Museum of Things We Now Know Are Bullshit".

Gay bath houses.
BDSM clubs.

The possibilities are endless.

Some of those churches have wonderful acoustics. A concert hall, auditorium for plays/speakers/seminars would be great. Imagine Richard Dawkins speaking in one of these converted churches without (much) need for a microphone. Or just a place for a great band to play.

I've played gigs in plenty of converted churches. It is always awesome to do.
