Joint ownership is nothing like complete ownership, that was my point. In a democracy, the vote can go your way or not your way. So your country is at best one that represents your view but does not always support it.

Back to the original point, can you not think of any other reason why you are patriotic other than "I love my country".

Stop moving the goal posts. I express my feeling of 'ownership' to my state. You pick on the one word 'owership' stating I don't own it, it's a joint ownership. I say it's still an ownership, you now state "complete ownership". I never fukin' said I was the complete, single, only, exclusive fukin' owner!

Reasons why I'm patriotic? Because America gives me one huge throbbing boner that's why. Doesn't mean I agree 100% with all of America's policies, expecially foreign ones. One of the reasons I likes it because I'm free to express, to whomever I wish, my discontent without fear of the jack-boots coming to the door. I love America for it's military might. No country can go toe-to-toe with MY military. I love America and the great Republic of Texas because we got the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. And because it simply is MY country. You other reasons for loving your country are at least valid, although I don't accept the reason "because it is simply my country". If you were living somewhere like North Korea and had the same views (politically etc) then I suspect you wouldn't love your country simply "because".

I don't love my country, and I would never love my country just because. In my opinion love / patriotism needs to be deserved. I think I probably feel more patriotic towards the USA over England, for one of the reasons you stated; freedom of expression.

If I was living in N. Korea I most likely would be of the same views that are prevalent in that country and thus love my country because it is my country. If I had differing views wilst living here maybe, like you I wouldn't be lovin' my country just because. But know what? I have my views, and I be loving my country just because.

Yes,I mean humans. Seems to me other animals are concerned with territory only as relates directly to survival. Humans seem to be the only species capable of making the planet uninhabitable for ourselves and a whole bunch of other species..

The Good news it that it's unlikely we'll do any permanent damage to the planet.Once we've made ourselves pretty much extinct by a combination of ignorance,greed and plain stupidity,the planet will get back to normal.Probably be quite a nice place to live. Who knows,enough humans may survive for a viable gene pool. How many is that? About 1200?
