Pat Robertson says it's ok to ignore parts of the Bible.

Well here it is. Straight from the horse's mouth. Apparently, we can pick and choose parts of the Bible after all, says Pat Robertson. He says essentially our "moral sensibilities" have changed and we now know slavery is wrong.

Do you think that this could be evidence that the skeptics and/or atheists on the internet are having an effect?
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

Well - that's what they (i.e. Christians) have done since the bible was put together. There are so many contradictions, inconsistencies and frankly: a lot of incoherrent rambling - that even they had to pick and choose. Rape, Slavery, Genocide, wholesale Slaughter of innocent people: It's according to the old testament OK and God seems to like it...

So: Those parts are in most cases (except perhaps for the extreme fundamentalists) never mentioned or referred to and most christians quickly (when asked about just those things) switch to Jesus - and how nice he was. They forget though that according to the NT Jesus also said that the OT is correct and one must not take one 'jota' off it...

Quote:Straight from the horse's mouth ass.

Fixed that for you.

Quote:But Robertson concluded that despite what the Bible says, “We have moved in our conception of the value of human beings until we realized slavery was terribly wrong.”

How come fucking jesus didn't realize it was terribly wrong, too?

Did you actually watch the clip? No where did pat say we could ignore any part of the bible. Don't get me wrong I am not a big fan of 'Christian TV' or the various personalities that push it. But, in this case you have misrepersented what Pat Robertson said.

"we can pick and choose parts of the Bible after all, says Pat Robertson. "

I watched the clip. He doesn't come out and say "you can cherry-pick". However, he does say that the Bible condones slavery. Right after that, he says that we now know that treating humans like commodities is wrong. So the Bible: Slavery is a-okay! And modern society: Slavery is very, very wrong.

Gee.... if the Babble is wrong about slavery, what else is it wrong about?
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?
