[split] Dressing up like a superhero to see a movie?

I always thought Batman was a pussy. He can't fly, has no xray vision and is about as strong as the xtian's fucking god. He's nothing but a rich white guy who thinks he's god's gift.

He could be Mitt Fucking Romney.

As a difference of opinion, I like Batman precisely because he has no powers. He's a rich guy, sure, but unlike say Tony Stark, who really is a womanizing narcissist (though is still guided by a sense of moral duty), Bruce Wayne is a philanthropist with an axe to grind who puts up a facade as his alter ego. He makes sense vis-à-vis the villains of his world--a much grittier, real place where superpowers aren't real but evil is.

But I digress.

I can see why someone would think it's pointless or perhaps even a little silly, but that doesn't warrant them being losers or idiots because of it.

So really your problem with my statement is not what I think about the actions of other people, it's that I used the words "loser idiots."
I have a strange feeling that if I used the words silly children, you would've still found a bone to pick with me as it is still an insult no matter how you look at it.

As for the words "loser idiots," I don't find them to be all that offensive. My father can be the king of idiots because he follows the Bible nearly word for word, but that doesn't mean that he's stupid round-the-clock. He's actually a very smart man with a painfully stupid view. Notice how I just judged him and quantified him as an idiot. That is my right to do so, I will not however go and yell at my father to stop believing in something he loves.

Allow me to give you a list of other people that I feel are idiots/ losers/ stupid if not all the time, some of the time.

... I could go on for hours, but I'm trying to get you to understand that just because I deem an action/person stupid or idiotic doesn't mean I'm right. It means I'm exaggerating my dislike for something to make a point. A point that you can easily ignore since I would never infringe on someone's right to be an idiot. You'd be right that I would still take issue with calling them silly children. It's not the words you used but the rationale behind the judgment and the particular issue at hand about which you're making the judgment.

Do you honestly think that people who dress up for a spot of fun truly want to be superheroes? Furthermore, what's your beef with superheroes to begin with? It's almost like you take personal issue with people enjoying things that you consider childish.

I'm 21, and I still play Pokemon games in my spare time. Does that make me a child for enjoying a game that is targeted towards children? It's a game I play because I still think they're fun, and I get fond nostalgia in playing them. To me, that's a worthwhile diversion.
People who dress up in costumes at movie premieres do so because they think it's fun and a diversion from their otherwise "normal" day-to-day. I seriously doubt they want to become superheroes or think they are superheroes because they're getting into the spirit of things.

Also, can you justify conflating something as simple as a little cosplay with something ideologically irrational like a particular religious belief?

Your beef is not why I don't like them is it? Your beef is that I simply expressed my dislike for it - is it not? My reasoning for not liking something makes no difference. It is your option to simply tell me that I'm a small-minded man who needs to lighten up, but it remains my option to dislike superheroes, baseball cards, sci-fi conventions or anything else that I deem an idiotic waste of time. There are thousands of people who agree with me, but there are thousands of people who agree with you. Yet somehow, I'm not allowed to voice my opinion about something I deem stupid.

Now, you brought up the issue of comparing costumery to religious belief. I could argue the same thing: Why are you making an issue out of something so small when many of us (myself included) openly mock others' ridiculous beliefs? If you mocked something I enjoyed, I know I would simply tell you to fuck off with a light jovial shoulder punch and we could laugh about our different tastes. You could still think I'm a loser and I just wouldn't give a shit. Incidentally, I really enjoy dressing in full military gear when I play paintball with my hard core paintballer friends. My wife and several of her friends think I'm a total loser when I do that. It doesn't phase me in the least. I think you read far too much into my remark.
