I'm from Texas, where similar laws exist, though they are quite likely a lot more harsh. As a point of contention I have to highly disagree with the insinuation that his being hung over lead to a misunderstanding. I couldn't possibly care less if he was shit faced drunk and misunderstood. Substance use of any kind is not an excuse for bad behavior or for saying you didn't understand something.
He allowed the friend to take the vehicle after he was told that a crime would be committed, during the commission of said crime a person lost their life. He was an accomplice plainly and simply. He deserves the same sentence the rest of the people got, had he not given them the keys to his car with full knowledge that they had already said they were going to commit a crime he would never have had to worry. As it was he should have refused to give them the car and reported their mentioned illegal activity to the police. He chose to give them the keys and allow the crime to be committed. Pretty simple open and shut case in my book.

I for one am glad I live in a country(not the best admittedly) with good laws that don't fuck your whole life if you happened to be involved with a dickhead.
Lol American legal system. 7 million in jail.
How much lower could your taxes be, or the deficit be, if the laws were not so awful?

I actually agree that we have far too many in our jails, and that our legal system needs a HUGE overhaul, however with the laws as they are now, if you life in the US you need to follow its laws. Otherwise you need to be made to face the consequences. Simple as that. I used to work in jails by the way, for over a year I was a jailer in the state of Texas. I will be the first one to step forward and say that there are simply way too many people being arrested for stupid shit in the US.

Yes, as evidence of free market efficiency I observe the land of the 310 million free puts more people in jail than the land of 1400 million communists.
The communists still executes way more people, but I am sure Texas will not let that atheistic distortion of god's natural order stand.
