You can have credit for the building when you also take credit for stoning adulterers.

It looks like a mosque, has a minaret, has the word 'Allah' at the top of it, has Quranic verses in literally every room inside. Not to mention there are mosques near it indicating a religious importance. It doesn't say much for your religion to even want the credit for the ediface that took so much wealth away from the feeding of the starving populace of the mogul empire just to satisfy the whim of one besotted second rate ruler in honor of a wife that accomplished nothing of note.
Perhaps she was a great lay?
She swallowed Min, she swallowed.
Islam built it. That much is a fact. Why deny it?

I don't think the religion is factually correct, but I also don't want to take away from the accomplishments of its followers. We have plenty we can criticize them over even if they did build the Taj Mahal.

Indeed, but the Taj Mahal is,on a level. The design reflects the Muslim view of paradise. On a personal level, more likely an expression of the massive ego and obsessive love of Shah Jihan for his dead wife Mumtaz Mahal. Plus of course a political statement of power,as is invariably the case with virtually all monumental architecture. Quote:So my question is, should celebrities/visitors be told that it's a religious palace rather than a historical palace? Gee,I don't know. Do you think it's possible it could be both? |
