But if you were to come home with a black or Japanese man they would disapprove ?
Ironically, I don't think they'd mind if I was with an Asian man, but they just hate the idea of a black person with a white person. I don't understand it.
Must be a reason they don't like blacks.
A leftover from the time of the equal rights movements ?

Both my parents come from Bible-Belt-Families. They are products of their social environments. This of course, does not excuse them.

It is not so much about if they are right or wrong, it is more that i like to understand why.
So you could say they are a victim of their upbringing ?

Well my grandmother hates Russians and thinks they are still out to get her. My Granddad believed the Jews ran the world and used the "stupid" black people to do so.
Weirdly enought my english granddad isn`t much better, especialy asian people are a subject of disgust for him.
I guess the US is far more progressive on that issue than most of europe.
It`s hard to get into a pub in certain parts of germany if you have dark skincolor. Especialy in the east.
Defining racism is hard when not confronted with examples on which one can say what is and what is not.
And although this is 1 hour long and has 3 parts which all last for one hour, I advise you to watch this documentary which gives a pritty good insight and understanding of the matter:

Well, strictly speaking, it is not that simple. Yes, their upbringing certainly has a lot to do with it, but my father chose to work in Corrections. He's probably noticed the inmates there are more likely to be black. This enforces a schema (a sort of preconceived notion) he may hold about black people being bad news or what have you. Some mindfulness and understanding of sociology and psychology would help, but my parents are too proud to listen to me (or anyone that disagrees with them).

There is a term for this in social psychology, but I don't recall it right now. Basically, people don't like to be wrong, so they will do all kinds of mental circus moves to make themselves right.

I don't want to offend you but where i live that isn't considered mildly.
Nor is it here (and I'm also in the US).

Cognitive bias?
That would be a neat over-laying sheet, but there are many, many kinds of cognitive biases. I'm trying to think of one (maybe a combo of 2) of them.
