Religion and LGBT people

I know, but I keep hoping I can appeal to his better nature and get him to be honest about it just once. Futile hope, I know, but I have to try. Guess that makes me an optimist.

It has been my experience that gay people (such as myself) have no business being religious. We are killed in some countries, despised in most countries, and looked down upon by most of humanity. Admittedly, my personal exprience is limited to the religious likes of baptists, catholics, and methodists; but I have yet to find a religion that says

'You're gay? Whatevs. Join us and be happy with yourself.'.

True, the worst of the worst gets the most media coverage, like the Phelps or Falwell or the 700 Club, but mainstream religions as a whole would rather not have us on this planet.

I just want to point out that I see all mainstream religions have 2 things in common.

1. They are very uncomfortable with the idea that gay people exist (this is as polite as I can be without using the words eradicate, remove, etc.).

2. They all have the same core message:
'Do as I do, say what I say, and some omnipotent superbeing will be pleased, otherwise you're going to end up in a very bad place.

Just my 2 cents.

Firstly Welcome, just nip to the intro section for a proper introduction.

Secondly I completely agree also being a gay man myself (that's why I started this whole thread). If Relgions don't want me because I love another man, fuck um. The whole point of this thread was to see just how homophobic religions are. And the answer: quite.

And note that only a portion of the unaffiliated are not religious. According to a recent Pew Research survey, "The religiously unaffiliated include atheists, agnostics and people who do not identify with any particular religion in surveys. However, many of the religiously unaffiliated have some religious beliefs. For example, belief in God or a higher power is shared by 7% of Chinese unaffiliated adults, 30% of French unaffiliated adults and 68% of unaffiliated U.S. adults. Some of the unaffiliated also engage in certain kinds of religious practices. For example, 7% of unaffiliated adults in France and 27% of those in the United States say they attend religious services at least once a year. And in China, 44% of unaffiliated adults say they have worshiped at a graveside or tomb in the past year."

Individuals can be understanding, accepting, perhaps even encouraging, but people are sheep and will follow the herd; and if the lead sheep is a hatefilled bigotted moron without 2 brain cells to rub together to create a coherent, original thought, then the rest of the sheep will follow the leader over a cliff.

Yeah, I might be a pessimistic ass, but the more I know about people, the more I love my cat.

Thank you. This is why I spoke of my experience, and not of the experiences of others. Those that have a more worldly view than I do may, of course, have a different opinion.

That is a lovely way to view humanity, and perhaps my expeiences have jaded me in my middle age, but I suppose that I see people differently. I see a few that fit your view, but I see most that do not.

Please, show us why you arrived at the conclusion that religions are "quite" homophobic...

I was seeing if there was evidence I had missing, I am not perfect. And since most Relgions preach against gay people that give me a good clue. care to prove me wrong.
