too rich?
RE: too rich?
My take on the whole thing is that, like poor people, rich people don't fit into one category. There are all kinds of different rich people. My younger brother is extremely wealthy and he gives money away like its something he found in the street. He's extremely generous. Several of his wealthy friends are extremely generous as well.

I would never want to see my brother made poor. He's the exact kind of man we all want to see rich. The other side of that of course, is the selfish billionaire who's only interest is furthering his own interests.

Rockefeller and Carnegie didn't become "humanitarians" until the ends of their lives ... well after they had broken the backs of everyone they came in contact with, and even that was only because the two of them were competing to see who could give the most away.

My only point is that I don't have a universal and generalized view on the rich. There are those who are wealthy who have done great good with their wealth and have only been able to do so because they are indeed rich.

If you've earned a good living --- good for you. You don't have to give it all away - live well. Just remember that a third house in the Caribbean might be able to take a back seat to a fat donation to a children's rescue fund. Imagine how many homes a 20 million dollar villa in the British Virgin Isle would pay for in Haiti.

Couldn't agree more Cinjin. The way I see it, one should endeavor to earn enough to look after themselves and their family (and to ensure they are able to look after themselves after you're gone). Whatever is left over should be given away to those who need it more.

I agree. Money isn't the root of all evil. Money just makes you more of what you are.

How caring of you. "Fuck you I got mine".

Yea Maddoff probably thought that too. Gaddaffi who was a billionaire who owned stock in GE probably thought that too.

We do not hate wealth FYI, but when you are doing nothing to improve society with that wealth and are simply exploiting resources just to line your own pockets, then you are just being a prick.

And your choice of car, yea, we need to burn more fossil fuel because DAMN IT THIS IS MERKA, who cares if we destroy the planet as long as you get what you want.

FUCK THE POOR I WANT MY COBRA.........You ooozzzz compassion.

To be fair, I would buy an Aston Martin and help the needy. Just saying. It's not like I would drive it through a poor African village drinking Champagne and rocking bling. In other words, it is okay to have nice things if you are rich. Being contemptuous of nice things seems like jealousy, which is also okay. What is not okay is to be a tight ass that buys himself nice shit, but doesn't share with people who need it. It's fucking tax deductible. Why not?

RE: too rich?
As I said the inequality pointed to in the Oxfam report provokes me, I have thoughts of removing some of that excess.

In other posts I have made reference to how I feel that the inequality there is, has become embedded, and there are those who are seemingly not part of the market, but are external to it with the ability to control the market the rest of us are in.

Now I heard it mentioned on QI(Steven Fry, BBC programme) a while back that there is in France a law that makes it illegal to stand back and not assist a person in mortal danger, and I like the contributors to that programme would not welcome such a law. Because among other things it seems to take away any good motives from the person providing aid.

So I find myself in a quandary, I can see people letting others suffer greatly when it is well within their power to help, and that does build up resentment within me towards them, but I would not like the force I feel that might be imposed on them to be imposed on me. But I also recognise that the situation (if not in some unspecified way rectified) has potential to create enough dissension that allied with other possible factors could bring about a system with laws like those in France at best, or a witch hunt of those deemed responsible like that of the French Revolution's Reign of Terror.

So how important is the right/ability not to give a shit about others. And If it is not where would it stop?

He is a fine Christian.

"Fuck you, I got mine" is a central idea ingrained heavily in Christianity.

Think about it, you heathens are going to Hell while we get to go to Heaven. You have to have a little "fuck you, I got mine" attitude to be really comfortable with this kind of afterlife scheme and worshiping the god that would set it up that way.

RE: too rich?
Maybe you can explain what your fucking kid was talking about here.

Quote:24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

Perhaps he was misquoted? Luke may have been a bit deaf? If so, why did your kid not fix his hearing?

Bit of a wanker, that jesus?
