Why would we say that?

There would be no change to most religions. They would maintain what they do now, deny reality and maintain the dogma. Personally, if shown proof I would spend a lot of time verifying, and then think about the implications. JD

I would believe in a god, then. I would wonder if it was just apathetic, or if it had "died" or something similar. I would not believe in any religion, however, as I would still believe they're 100% created by very flawed human beings.

How about this - instead of "I believe in god" I would say "I know God exists" the same way I know the Okapi and Giraffe exist. Without getting all philosophically existential, of course. I save my "I believe in you!" for Lifetime Network moments when people need the ego boost.
If God exists and clearly hasn't interfered with things that should be taken care of, or is deliberately malevolent, I'd say it wouldn't change the people in religious power one iota. They don't do it for religion. They do it because people are sheep and they get off on the power trip.

Let's say that science proves the existence of God - A perfect logical proof (with evidence) that clearly states that the universe was created by a creator. Nothing more, nothing less...
Well if that happened I would see it as an interesting fact and continue on as normal.

That depends on which god was proven. I mean if you prove the existence of the aztec god of war it would go differently than if you proved the existence of zeus.
Quote:What religion would they cling to?
Me none. I would not join a religion even if god was proven to exist. As I said it would just be an interesting fact like we are stardust.

Would there be world peace?
I think there would be more and bloodier wars as the different faiths and subsets of faiths get insentivised.

The hook of religion is never about respect for material facts but about protecting a comforting sense of "we know better than smarter and more incisive people" amongst the stupid.
If entity with some attribute now attributed to some god turns out to be a material fact, you can bet existing religions won't give a shit about those facts and would go on sprouting their own interpreations of bullshit handed down to them from before the discovery just like they've done since age immemorial. The reason is simply that if such "god" is an material fact, then it would be the smart and incisive people who would likely come to command these facts. Those would not be the religious people, so the religious people would stick to whatever continues to give them the sense of "we know better than smarter and more incisive people".

I think that would ruin the fun of having faith in the stuff you want to have faith in. A few people would say "I told you so" and look all smug about it, if it's what they had faith in.
