I rather suspect that you don't actually understand what you just said.

Perhaps you missed the part

In the search for a unifying theory we could do a lot worse than start here.

I don't get your expectation that the audience at AF would understand what Noether's theorem is (or symmetry as you put it). The fact that you hold up Noether's theorem as a starting point for a GUT is also somewhat bizarre.

Anyone that actually understands Noether's theorem wouldn't just drop it into a sentence as you did. Are you fucking kidding? This isn't a mathematics symposium. Let me be clear on this; undergraduate math majors don't know dick about Noether, yet you act as if her theorem is common knowledge.

I have no expectation.

I'm not about to start making assumptions about what other members of AF understand and what they don't understand. If someone doesn't want to read what I've posted they are completely free to pass over to the next post, but that is their personal decision not mine or anyone else’s.

The post is in the context of my earlier post from which you will see it's not important to actually know Noether's Theorem but to simply understand what the implications of it are. I'm sure far more people understand the implications of Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity than understand the mathematics behind it.

You can be as 'clear' as you like, I fully recognise your right to express an opinion, but I'm not about to edit my posts as a result of your particular brand of elitist histrionics, because that is censorship of the most pernicious kind.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)
