Y'aa think the south's bad? Pffft. At least south consists of California and Nevada and Colorado and even Virginia. Hell, I was born in DC and raised in northern Virginia. I'm from a southern state, and yet look at me. I turned into one hell of a dirty (sexy) little heathen.
The midwest has got nothing but shit. The midwest is responsible for most of the nation's expenditures in social aid programs; the same programs those same dumb fucks bitch about others mooching off of all the time! AND it's full of anus-backwards hicks, fundamentalist groups, and oh fuck me in Wisconsin Evangelism is the big name religion.
See, the midwest also includes Texas, and Idaho, and Iowa. THIS REGION IS THE REGION OF SUCK. I always say that I live in the ass crack of America. lol

No, not of The South, but the southern US.
It hasn't yet been specified what exactly the meaning of "south" was. I was being literal in my interpretation.

Its not just the racism, it's ignorance, the government mandated religiosity, the bigotry against everyone who isn't white and their favored brand of protestant, and not Republican.
I've lived in East Tennessee all my life, I have family in parts of North Carolina, friends in Georgia, Virginia, black friends in South Carolina, more friends in Florida and Kentucky. These people run the gambit in religion or non-religion, some are racist, some fall in the middle and most are like me, they have no problems with race. Those who have a dislike for another race, are still people who are my friends, though I disagree with them, some of them have qualities in them I wish was a part of my life. I'm sure others find faults in me, yet they keep me as a friend. Life is not, nor ever will be perfect, same for people, but one does not just shove people to the side and consider them something less than themselves, if they do this they are no better than the judgement they place on others. I've traveled all over this country and have seen those things you stated in every part of this country. If change is going to come to this country people are going to have to get along no matter what they believe, how else will the divisions between people come to light and be discussed to move our country in a better direction. You know what I see in what you said, the same I've heard whites say about other races, so where's the difference. The change has got to start with everyone, not just the one's you dislike. Please do not be offended with what I said, I was not trying to be critical, it was an observation.

Yeah. No need to thank Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks, or anyone like that.
I do not know how old you are, but I can tell you this, Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks were good Christians and they would and did say, Thank God. They saw what they did as a work with God and for their race. I was proud of Rosa Parks and admired her courage, I will never forget the terrible feeling of losing Martin Luther because someone could not see him for the person he was, "great." You should learn something about others before you criticize. If you had not used those rolling eyes I would not have included the previous sentence.

Sorry I fit into what makes you so uncomfortable, don't fret though you make me uncomfortable.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

You can't stereotype an entire region.
Yes you can. I lived in Georgia for about 3 years, and it was 3 years too long. If you don't support gun rights, are a Republican, and are a fundamentalist, you're shunned.
Luckily, I was Christian when I lived in Georgia, but I was still very much Democrat and anti-gun, and it was miserable. I was not surrounded by bright people.
And unfortunately, this prom news does not shock me at all.

I'm sorry, I'm failing to see how making a generalization - which happens to be true - means I'm "contributing to the problem".
California is not "the South." Texas is.
I never said I wrote anyone off. In general I take people based on their own merits. That doesn't mean that the vast majority of voters or people encountered down here don't end up being backwards yokels or, in the case of this article, degenerate fucks.
Ask yourself why, if I say such nasty things, do I still live down here? My family is all up in safe, educated NOVA, and the man I was seeing before David lives in DC. I could have left. I stay here because even if the South can be generalized as a piece of shit, I still love where I live - one of the few brilliant bastions of education, the green movement, and rising culture. Like the article mentioned, the young people here are out for change. There's hope yet.
But thank you, GC and Threep, for giving me a so-much-needed lecture in generalizations and stereotypes. I never would have figured those things out without you. Please, let me never make a generalization again, even if it's overwhelmingly true and even if I understand that I still need to take things or people on an individual basis, just to make sure no one ever mistakes my comprehension skills.
