Twenty questions for atheists
#21
RE: Twenty questions for atheists
Ok, I'll bite.

1.Why are you atheist ?

Because I'm not a theist. No offence to those who are, but I can't imagine being one.

2.How are you became atheist ?

I've never knowingly been anything else, so I don't really have an answer to this one.

3.Where are you from ?

My parents.

4.How old are you ?

6 next birthday. I'm having cake. And a balloon.

5.Do you believe in the afterlife (some atheist than I know believe to the afterlife) ? If no , can you explain why ?

I'd like to believe, mainly out of basic human wishful thinking. Beyond that I'm not going to comment further.

6.Did you read all the Bible ? If you read all the bible what biblical canon (catholic , orthodox , protestant etc...) ?

Yes and no. I've read the damn thing, but not in one sitting and with frequent vomit breaks. Most of those 'begat' things I skipped though.

7.Did you read all the Quran ? (Yes I know that for Muslims if you read a translation you don't read the Koran).

I do sometimes read Kerrang! but I prefer the NME.

8.Did you read an other religious text ? If yes what is it or what are they ?

Only when I'm motivated into research. I have a soft spot for ancient Egyptian mythology and all those crazy creation stories.

9.What are yours hobbies ?

Reading, writing, gaming, logic puzzle solving, chess. Basically anything involving stretching my brain. And my penis.

10.Can you define the goal of the life ?

For me? Yes. For anyone else? No; only they can.

11.Sometimes do you think ? I will go in Hell if god does exist.

No, never. That would be silly.

12.Sometimes do you think that God does exist maybe ?

If I do, it's purely hypothetically for the purposes of discussion; never seriously. That said, if the bastard does exist, it's got a lot of explaining - and apologising - to do.

13.What do you think about people who believe in monotheistic religions ?

Personally, I think they are wrong.

14.What do you think about people who believe in polytheistic religions ?

I think they're wrong too, but at least by imagining many smaller gods they're more flexible than monotheists with their single all-powerful god in charge of everything.

15.What do you think about people who believe in a religion where there are not god(s) ?

I think that if they've found a pattern for their lives that works for them, fair play to them. I'd find it dtrange that they'd need to call it a religion, though.

16.Do you have an interest about philosophy to have answers about the life ? Can you explain why ?

No, not really. Thus no.

17.Do you fear to dead ? (I speak in a metaphysical context and about your friends , family etc...).

No, I have no fear about my own death. It could happen at any moment and I wouldn't particularly care (as long as it didn't hurt, or tickle). I only have deep sadness for those I'd leave behind.

18.Do you like your life ? If you like your life , why do you like your life. If you don't like your life I would like to know the reason.

This question is far too personal for me to answer, sorry.

19.Do you dream to live in a world where there are not place for the religions ? If yes or no explain please.

I'd like to see a world free of the need for religion, hopefully within my lifetime, but that doesn't mean I'd want to see it outlawed or anything. Of course, the more strident of the religions need their claws clipped from time to time to make sure they don't cause too much damage.

20.Do you think that politic is like religion ? Explain why this is not equal or not.

I'm not sure what this question even means.

There you go. What's the prize?
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

RE: Twenty questions for atheists
I'll play along...

(April 29, 2013 at 4:44 pm)viocjit Wrote: 1.Why are you atheist ?

I have not been presented with sufficient demonstrable evidence, reasoned argument and valid & sound logic to support the claim that any god exists.

Quote:2.How are you became atheist ?

My atheism is an extension of my skepticism. When I decided to examine the claim that a god exists, the claim did not meet its burden of proof.

Quote:3.Where are you from ?

Los Angeles.

Quote:4.How old are you ?

Quite a few decades.

Quote:5.Do you believe in the afterlife (some atheist than I know believe to the afterlife) ? If no , can you explain why ?

Don't believe in afterlife for the same reason I don't believe in any other supernatural claims; lack of demonstrable evidence.

Quote:6.Did you read all the Bible ? If you read all the bible what biblical canon (catholic , orthodox , protestant etc...) ?

Several times.

Quote:7.Did you read all the Quran ? (Yes I know that for Muslims if you read a translation you don't read the Koran).

Tried. Could not get through it.

Quote:8.Did you read an other religious text ? If yes what is it or what are they ?

Hindu Vendas.

Quote:9.What are yours hobbies ?

Surfing. Several days a week I place myself back into the food chain.

Quote:10.Can you define the goal of the life ?

To survive and pass along genetic material.

Quote:11.Sometimes do you think ? I will go in Hell if god does exist.

Not at all.

Do you ever think that you may go to Naraka (the Hindu Hell) to have your sins burned away so you can be reincarnated as a cat?

Quote:12.Sometimes do you think that God does exist maybe ?

Do you ever think that maybe Shiva, Ahura Mazda, Vishnu or any of the other 1000's of gods you don't believe in, exist?

Yeah...it's kind of like that...

Quote:13.What do you think about people who believe in monotheistic religions ?

I think that they believe for bad reasons.

Quote:14.What do you think about people who believe in polytheistic religions ?

No different than question 13.

Quote:15.What do you think about people who believe in a religion where there are not god(s) ?

Depends on their other beliefs that go along with their religion. One thing that does seem to hold true for non theistic religions, they very rarely set bombs off in public places, fly planes into buildings, try to force their 'scriptural morality' on other people.

Quote:16.Do you have an interest about philosophy to have answers about the life ? Can you explain why ?

Some.

Quote:17.Do you fear to dead ? (I speak in a metaphysical context and about your friends , family etc...).

I did not exist for billions of years up to this point, my death will be much like that.

Quote:18.Do you like your life ? If you like your life , why do you like your life. If you don't like your life I would like to know the reason.

Yes. Living for me is definitely better than the alternative.

Quote:19.Do you dream to live in a world where there are not place for the religions ? If yes or no explain please.

i think it would be a better world, as long as religion was not replaced with something equally doctrinal and dogmatic. Communism as practiced by the Soviets, for example.

Quote:20.Do you think that politic is like religion ? Explain why this is not equal or not.

Yes. Soviet style Communism, for example.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

RE: Twenty questions for atheists
1.Why are you atheist ?

Theism is nonsensical, and even if it wasn't, there are thousands of competing theisms, most of them claiming exclusive truth. Most of them are certainly wrong, so why think any of them are right?

2.How are you became atheist ?

By no longer believing in God.

5.Do you believe in the afterlife (some atheist than I know believe to the afterlife) ? If no , can you explain why ?

There is no good reason to assume there is an afterlife, so I don't believe there is one in spite of that fact.

6.Did you read all the Bible ? If you read all the bible what biblical canon (catholic , orthodox , protestant etc...) ?

Yes, and several. I own a copy of the English Standard Version, but I usually use online bible sites for actual reference, so I can access all versions at once.

7.Did you read all the Quran ? (Yes I know that for Muslims if you read a translation you don't read the Koran).

Only in parts. If I want blood-soaked fiction, A Song of Ice and Fire is a hell of a lot more interesting.

8.Did you read an other religious text ? If yes what is it or what are they ?

Never in their entirety.

10.Can you define the goal of the life ?

I can define goals for my life. I cannot define a goal for life itself because I am a fatalist nihilist, apparently, and there is none.

11.Sometimes do you think ? I will go in Hell if god does exist.

It is not something I take seriously in the slightest.

12.Sometimes do you think that God does exist maybe ?

No.

13.What do you think about people who believe in monotheistic religions ?

I think a fair amount don't really take it very seriously. I don't mind those people, though they really should pay attention to what it is they think they believe in. Those who do treat their religion as though it was a real and relevant thing sometimes frighten me, because they are slavishly devoted to a being which is a jealous and terrible monster according to its own instruction manual, and they strike me as being one holy email away from committing any kind of imaginable atrocity.

14.What do you think about people who believe in polytheistic religions ?

Not much. They're just as silly as monotheists but are generally less of a threat to people.

15.What do you think about people who believe in a religion where there are not god(s) ?

They are silly and probably mostly harmless.

16.Do you have an interest about philosophy to have answers about the life ? Can you explain why ?

Philosophy is something to major in if you want to work at Taco Bell. That's pretty much it. I have an interest in some philosophical concepts (not the philosophers themselves or their specific ideas, I generally find that boring and droll), but it is just an interest. Philosophy has no answer for the meaning of life any more than religion does.

17.Do you fear to dead ? (I speak in a metaphysical context and about your friends , family etc...).

Yes. Being alive is really great. But, it's going to happen most likely, and I've made my peace with it.

18.Do you like your life ? If you like your life , why do you like your life. If you don't like your life I would like to know the reason.

On the whole, I am quite satisfied.

19.Do you dream to live in a world where there are not place for the religions ? If yes or no explain please.

I dream of living in a world where religion is treated properly: as the artifact of our species' ignorant infancy. Religion's only real value is anthropological. It really is something we should have moved on from by now, as a species.

20.Do you think that politic is like religion ? Explain why this is not equal or not.

Politics is the discussion of real life matters. Religion is the discussion of fiction by people who have difficulty telling the difference.

RE: Twenty questions for atheists
Quote:1.Why are you atheist ?
I am not an atheist, but a deist. It is more liberating and I am allowed to be myself mentally without suppressing aspects that are merely natural.

Quote:2.How are you became atheist ?
To answer your question is has more to do with evidence such as Sumerian Religions having significant influence on Jewish religion. Not to mention through observation, there seems to be a total lack of any intervention regarding the world. It is not a simple problem of evil, more an issue of promises made in the bible vs what is visually seen in the world today. That is the short answer.

Quote:3.Where are you from ?
Louisiana, yes bible belt

Quote:4.How old are you ?
Almost 25

Quote:5.Do you believe in the afterlife (some atheist than I know believe to the afterlife) ? If no , can you explain why ?
Maybe I do not know to be honest, rather focus on this life and resolve the human condition or at least progress towards it. Also, no one has died fully and came back, so afterlife is pure speculation.

Quote:6.Did you read all the Bible ? If you read all the bible what biblical canon (catholic , orthodox , protestant etc...) ?
Preachers kid, I was around the bible all the time. Typically I still read the Holmans Translation (as it is the most accurate to the greek imo)

Quote:7.Did you read all the Quran ? (Yes I know that for Muslims if you read a translation you don't read the Koran).
Yes, 9th Surah is rather violent, and the book contradicts itself a lot.

Quote:8.Did you read an other religious text ? If yes what is it or what are they ?
I have not yet, I would like to look into Buddhism and Taoism.

Quote:9.What are yours hobbies ?
Creating video concepts, reading, writing stories, and video games.

Quote:10.Can you define the goal of the life ?
My life to become a video game designer, powerful geneticist/virologist. Hopefully get to go into space someday.

Quote:11.Sometimes do you think ? I will go in Hell if god does exist.
I follow Bushido, if it is my punishment so be it. And if does exists it will not permanent. If god is logical then punishment will fit the crime.

Quote:12.Sometimes do you think that God does exist maybe ?
I believe an entity does exist, however I think people miss-define and make presuppositions regarding god.

Quote:13.What do you think about people who believe in monotheistic religions ?
As long as they do not hurt people why not.

Quote:14.What do you think about people who believe in polytheistic religions ?
Same as question 14.

Quote:15.What do you think about people who believe in a religion where there are not god(s) ?
I like Buddhists and Shinto is interesting.

Quote:16.Do you have an interest about philosophy to have answers about the life ? Can you explain why ?
I like eastern philosophy, it seems more wise and down to earth.

Quote:17.Do you fear to dead ? (I speak in a metaphysical context and about your friends , family etc...).
We all die, what matters is now you live and how to face death. Concerning my friends and family I hope there is an afterlife. I would love to see them again.

Quote:18.Do you like your life ? If you like your life , why do you like your life. If you don't like your life I would like to know the reason.
I do, because I am more liberated.

Quote:19.Do you dream to live in a world where there are not place for the religions ? If yes or no explain please.
No, because that would be tyranny unless people did it willingly.

Quote:20.Do you think that politic is like religion ? Explain why this is not equal or not.
No both are different types of ideologies. However, they both found within each other.

I don't know about an afterlife, I doubt it, I don't remember anything before my life so I don't see why it would be different after my life. Remember everyone has already experienced death.
6
No, I might have done but I don't think i ever read the full thing
7
I've read a fair bit of it but I don't think I've read the full thing.
8
I tried to read a mormon bible but it was just too boring.

The gym and music.
10
I can't define the goal of life in general, my goal in life is just to feel good and be good.
11
haha No i never think I'll go to hell, I believe I'm genuine, charitable and kind.
12
Yes
13
I sometimes wonder how they think they can know such specific things about the creator of the universe and be so sure about it.
14
same
15
depends on the religion, I usually just think these are hippies who like the idea of being spiritual because it's cool
16
I don't have an intentional interest in philosophy, I suppose I do philosophize, because I have too much time on my hands to think about stuff.
17
yes

Yes I think it would be better for humanity if we didn't have dividing beliefs.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I saw yours answers and to be honestly I can confirm that Atheists are authentic.
Why are they authentic ?

1.Each Atheist represent himself or herself. Because an Atheist don't represent a community. Yes there are an Atheist community or Atheist communities but each person are individual like the Atheism is not a dogma.
2.The Atheists on this Forum are anti-conformists like the majority are from an Anglo-Saxon country (USA , UK etc...) where the majority of people believe in God.
3.Each Atheists have a personal conception about the goal of the life.
