The one disputed law of atheism for the readily confused

The one disputed law of atheism for the readily confused
Atheism is simply a disbelief in a deity.

It is not a belief in no deity. It is not what can be subclassified as atheistic.

Many times, on every day of this sites existence, this one point is made again and again.

There are guidelines and stickies saying such. But still the mantra gets trotted out.

Funny thing is... this is not by any means agreed upon by all atheists. Just the vocal majority. (They may actually be the true majority, it matters not.).

Herding cats. Pretty much sums it up.

Pretty much does. So why do theists try to lump us into one homogeneous mass again?

P.S. Atheism can also be a belief in no god, but this is not required, and most atheists do not have this belief.

Exactly. That's why the A/Gnostic adjective is applied.

Shocker! Some atheists vary on their own position regarding their atheism.

Yes, atheism is the disbelief in the existence of a deity. That could almost be said to be the threshold to be an atheist. SOME atheists also believe in no deity. But they still also have the position of disbelief in a deity.

EDIT: It isn't a 'law of atheism'.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Every day since I've been here there's the faithful atheist arguing for this particular dogma (hilariously not agreed upon by all atheists).

in fact... I'ma gonna start a new thread now. just for the lulz.

It's the small victories.

And who says we aren't doing any good by debating with theists?

If frods can finally get it, there may be hope for other theists.

I got it way before I got here. 4 years times what... at least 5 times a day. There's always fresh blood to pick up the torch.

The limits of cognitive power is shown by his theistic inclination.
