He wasn't just copy/pasting his own stuff. He's been copy/pasting articles off other websites as well.

We've been getting multiple reports about him for a while now, but despite giving him verbal warnings numerous times, he's just ignored us completely.

This is completely bogus. Where is the open forum, where is the free speech this forum is supposed to be about? I am outraged.

Free speech is great, but not when you use it to spam and copy/paste stuff everywhere. We have rules against this for a reason.

If after repeated warnings a member can't follow your rules, you do what you think is best.

My "vote" though would be a ban for a period of time or a warning, especially (as in this case) for a long term member.

He was warned, and if you were aware of his long history of behavior on other sites (going back to at least 1996), you might have a different perspective on the value of a temporary ban (which is a tool we have at our disposal).

As I usually explain it: most of the time you guys don't get to see what goes on behind the scenes, because we edit / delete posts that break the rules.

Some of his links were to source stuff, agreed, but generally speaking sourcing your points from stuff you've written isn't really how you are supposed to do things. Regardless, these weren't the copy/pastes we were most concerned with. We were more concerned with his copy/pastes from articles which he had not written. We don't hold the copyright on these articles, and we do not allow people to simply copy/paste news articles when a link is perfectly fine.

This is the real bull. I couldn't give a fuck whether he believes in God, doesn't believe in the Holocaust, thinks Israel shouldn't exist, etc. I'll gladly debate him on those points, but what we won't do is compromise our integrity and ban someone because we don't like their views.

Which topic would that be? We'll certainly close threads if people can't stop flaming each other, but we don't censor threads based on their subject. We're certainly not anti-christian or anti-Islam (one of the admins is a Muslim for fuck's sake).

Cool it. When we say that it is for his spamming, it is so. My vote for banning him came from counting up to 7 new threads by him in less than half an hour, for bumping those threads that die out of themselves and for not caring one iota about all the warnings received. I have actually never read any of his political posts. Do you still dare to call me a liar? Did I wanted to see him banned because of his views? No.

Look, the staff was tired of dealing with all of the reports due to copy/pasting, using copyrighted material, and flaming. Ultimately, what did him in was the fact that he ignored anything the staff had to say about his posting style.
