As with Christianity, there is one unforgivable sin in the GOP.
Apostasy.
Other than that, you can lie, cheat, steal, commit adultery, have wide-stances in the bathroom, anything you want. Then you look up into the sky and say "sorry about that Jesus". And then you can go and sin all you like again. Wash, rinse, repeat.
But apostasy is the unforgivable sin. It says so in the Bible three times (denial of the Holy Spirit). Similarly, any GOP member who ever sides with a democrat is forever sunk. Chris Christie can pretty much write off any chance of being president. If he ever runs, his footage of hugging Obama will be on the opposing campaign ads 24/7.

I don't know about that... Chris Christie did have lapband surgery to get his weight down... He very well could be looking at running in 2016... I think he'd have a tough time in the primary, as you point out, but I don't think the image of him hugging Obama would hurt him in the general election. It depends on who else throws their hat into the ring for the primary though... For instance if Michele Bachman, Gingrich, Ryan, Santorum, et al, try again... Christie would squash them like bugs, the fact that he hugged Obama would be moot if the republicans can't come up with a better pool of candidates.

I agree and sorry if I wasn't clear. A moderate Republican would always be strongest in the general election but we almost never see one in the general election because they can't get the nomination.
That said, if Christie can make it to the general election, he'll have an easier chance. The GOP base can be counted on by their blind hatred of the Democrats, regardless of whoever gets the nomination. I just have serious doubts that Christie will make it that far but I could be wrong.

I hope Christie does make it far but somehow I doubt he will get past the primaries. The stupid rednecks don't like him, he won't win the redneck vote.

A lot can happen between now and primaries... We shall see.
Who are the dems going to run? Oh my, I think I just exposed how underwhelmed I am by Obama

Just a guess:
Another spineless, center-right appeaser who's going to throw the progressives under the bus as soon as he/she is in office but we're still going to hold our collective noses and vote for because he/she will still be leagues better than the lying, theocratic, saber-rattling fascist the Republicans will run.

I just hope it isn't Hillary. Don't know why exactly, but I don't like that woman... I don't think she could win a general election either.

McCain and Romney were both more moderate than almost everyone else in the primaries.

I think every president elected from now on will disappoint so long as we expect them to do anything in the face of lobby bought obstruction. Just electing a progressive president won't be enough.
