The Separation of Church and State

The Separation of Church and State
(This Applies to the U.S.A)
I start this of by saying the following:

Gay Marriage should be 100% legal

This is true no matter who you are. Even if you HATE gays because god has condemned them and feels they are abominations. Well thats all well and good but here is the problem, "god" doesn't have any say in our goverment what so ever.

It's called the Separation of Church and State and it's in our United States Constitution. That is that. No further argument needs to be made. Not one for gay marriage, and not one against it.

Though I think we have all seen that the Separation of Church and State is total BS and it is unfortuantely not as strictly enforced as it should be.
But that's just the way I see it

I totally agree with you AtheistBassist the separation of church and state is a myth in the U.S. It's evident that it is only true on paper as an ammendment to the Constitution. But if one were to just look around they would quickly realize how Christianity has its grimy claw in everything. It has a powerful influence on U.S. politics,In God We Trust is printed on our currency and in our court room walls. It serves as a check for the sciences as well since they are being held back from moving forward on bs moralistic arguments that are religion based.

I believe that gays should be allowed to marry, also if you are going to have a kid you dont want then get an abortion.I am against everything religion has to say on any and all issues.

It's scary to think about isn't it? It pains me to see this country in such a state and to know that it more thank likely will be for it's entire lifespan.

I agree with your stance on abortion also, but I didn't want to bring that up because I actually know atheist that have a problems with it for other reasons, but yes I agree.

Thou shalt not kill? Generalizing is bad. Don't be silly.

Seperation of church and state is absolutely necessary. The US isn't doing a very good job of this right now. Religion is so engrained into that country that it'll be a long time before we see true seperation.

I agree.....

Just like I (personally) don't agree with atheists who say: "I Know 100% there is no God...I am convinced"; I think that's the equivelent to Carl Jung who said: "I KNOW there is a God."

I know that the probability of God's existence is very very very very recurring small....but actually I think the difference between that and KNOWING 100% he doesn't exist...is actually very big... what you have to KNOW is that you can't 'KNOW' anything 100% therefore even what I just said might not be true...maybe you can know some things 100% but you can't because you can't know what things can be known 100% and what can't...there is no way of knowing that.

I'm confused lol....

Anyway the equivilent to KNOWING there is NO God is Carl Jung who claimed to KNOW there IS a God....and Carl Jung also thought that some of the books he owned spontanously combusted....

I think 100% belief there is a God and 0% belief there is a God...is kind of; in a way...not really part of the spectrum they're both extremes that don't belong in the spectrum IMO....the difference between 0.1% and 0% and 99.9% and 100% is actually very very very very big I think. There is a huge difference between ANY possibility(or impossibility) - however small(or large) - and between no possibility (or impossibility).

I don't agree with 100% OR 0% belief.

Secularism is ironically vital for the protection of religious freedom.

Here is a list of secular states

I think I am right in saying that Turkey is the only country with a Muslim majority and fully democratic.
It is also secular
Coincidence? I think not.

Here's a good quote on the subject:

"I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death." - George Carlin.

Yes if you take a look around in this modern age, just about any country that is non secular does not thrive in any shape or form. The united states isn't truly secular therefore it is in the condition it is currently in. Oh and if you don't think the U.S.A is in shit right now, pull your head out of your ass and take a good look around.
But that's just the way I see it

Well intuitively I'm sure that's probably true....but I don't actually know how 'in the shit' the U.S is right now because I don't have much evidence on the subject...I know it's atleast f**ked up somewhat but I don't know to what extent...

Why don't I know the extent of it's f**ked-up-ness? Because I don't really watch or read the news....

All I know is a lot of people are saying it's messed up but some people think it's all under control...

I'm pretty sure it's very messed up but I don't really know to what extent.

If I am put in a situation of life or death "Thou shalt not kill" would be null and void in my book.Besides,God supposedly gave that command and then sent the Hebrews to do just that.
