Yeah, this was the first time I've had words with the fucker. He doesn't even know who I am (another reason to not take the threat seriously).
Frankly, I don't think it's an issue of the police being lazy - they can only do what the law allows. They did give a lot of good advice as to what can and can't be done.

Decent guy? I dunno. Just a guy with a checkered past who's seen and experienced far more violence in his life than anyone should.
I don't know that I can claim that title.

Kudos for sure. I also hate when I become that enraged. You just don't want to do jail over it. I wouldn't and fuck that guy anyway for putting you -not to mention his kids- in that position. Asshole.

I would have tried to bring the focus back to the welfare of the child. Fighting and abuse in front of the child is not IMO best thing for the kid.
If the "pickup" or "drop off" of a child has the potential to escalate to that degree, may I suggest that it be done in a place where that will not happen such as the police station.
