I have the same experience in talking to my atheist acquaintances. I might make a certain contention, and the reply is almost always "I respect your theism. Why can't you respect my atheism?" As if my disagreeing with them is, in itself, disrespectful. Humbug I say.
What makes you think I don't hate that too? Now I do agree that in our daily lives face to face life isn't always one big "fuck you" fest. But I do hate it even when atheists pull that word out. It still is amounts to humans trying to avoid conflict. It isn't that we need to or should want to kill each other, that is not productive of course. But the word "respect" is code for "NEVER EVER".
Everything in life is case by case, which is why taboos are a bad way to problem solve. I expect people to value my right to express myself, but how would I be valuing society as a whole if all I ever did is say " avoid the debate and blasphemy in all contexts because people get uncomfortable with it".

Yes Bri. Because those are peoples actions and not who those people are. You act like a fool/ you are a fool... no, you're acting like a fool. (yet still I respect you! )

But what if I say "DON'T CALL ME A FOOL" you are "disrespecting me".
Now, what if I had a majority over you? Considering I would outnumber you, how easily would it be for that majority to pass laws that said you could not call an atheist "a fool".?
Here is the difference. If I think you are being that much of a dick I have a choice. I can respond to you, or block you, or simply ignore you. What I do not have the right to do is make demands.
"Respect" not in the way it should mean, but the way it is abused, merely means "Know your place" and "do not question me" and "do not hurt my feelings".

Respect cannot be demanded, no. It's a common courtesy that should be extended until lost. Even then, the nicest people seem to be able to show respect even then.
You have the right to be belligerent. I guess you earn the fallout from that too.

Fucking liar. Almost always? You don't many atheists, do you?
Atheists, almost always, don't respect your theism; they respect your right to have whatever dicked up belief you hold. Huge fucking difference.
Yeah, I just lied because I just love being dishonest because I'm a theist and that's just what we do.
Could you do me a favor and actually read my post please... slowly? I was talking about my atheist acquaintances. Perhaps they aren't particularly intelligent atheists. What of it? I'm certainly not presuming that all atheists are like them.
Why the vitriol?

No, I get you. I was actually agreeing with you. What is it about my post that is being taken as me implying that you don't hate that just like I do?
I feel like whatever I post, people on here are assuming that I am disagreeing with them, and I just get a big "Well fuck you!" in return. lol!
No biggie though. Guess I just need to be clearer and say "I agree with you."

I agree, though, I wish there were more members of that faith on here. Would be interesting to get a perspective that is (at least marginally) less insane.
well, you can consider me to be an ex-member i have both academically and casually studied islam. SO I know a great deal about it's beliefs. It's not that stupid IMO, but highly inconsistent and divided, there's no fixed stand point in Islam, everything varies from sect to sect and from person to person, apart form some fundamentals! which we all would disagree to

Like seriously, have yall been fighting? 0.o
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
