Sure there is. Put her in prison and throw away the key and the owners of those privately owned prisons stand to make a buttload of money. I can't understand why they never did that.

Personally, I'm glad she got into a treatment program so she could get the help she needs. Our prison system is focused more on punishment than it is on rehabilitation, the end result being that we lock people up for a set amount of time and then let them back out, with them being even more pissed off and messed up and learning ways to be better criminals. Sounds like a good system, don't it?

Well the key for half those people in prison at least: is mental healthcare and drug/alcohol abuse rehabilitation support. Both of which are practically nonexistent. The only care out there is methadone clinics (I've known a guy who literally shot himself up with heroine for the fist time in able to qualify for the methadone because of the lack of mental healthcare), ER s which are the overworked safety net for the whole medical network, or pay clinics which no one seems to have the money for. So, pretty much, if you're mentally ill you're fucked. That's why so many people end up on disability for mental issues; its the only way to get healthcare for dabilitating issues. On the other hand that's why there's suicides and a massive amount of self medicators.
